Research thematic

Understanding the mechanisms at the origin of specific grass – lepidopteran stemborers – parasitoids interactions allows not only to better understand the diversification mechanisms of these insects but also the host change mechanisms that can be strongly influenced by climate change and anthropisation. In this context, my research works are linked to the understanding of host recognition and acceptance mechanisms by Lepidoptera stemborers and associated parasitoids (biochemical, physiological and molecular aspects). I am developing biological control programmes not only against Lepidoptera stemborers in Africa but also in France. Recently, I have undertaken studies on the impact of the introduction of a new invasive maize pest, Spodoptera frugiperda or “fall armyworm” in Africa since 2016, on a community of other pre-existing lepidopteran maize stem borer pests and their associated parasitoids used as biological control agents. More recently and in collaboration with CIMMYT, studies on the resistance mechanisms in African of maize germplasm to S. frugiperda have been initiated in 2019.
